The Marine Corps League SgtMaj Michael Curtin Detachment 1124 is committed to more than just monthly meetings — we strive to be a visible, active, and supportive force in our community. Through partnerships, youth engagement, veteran support, and civic involvement, we aim to make meaningful impact throughout East Pasco and beyond.
We help connect Marines, FMF Corpsmen, and their families to VA benefits, legal aid, local veteran services, and state programs. The national Marine Corps League offers resources such as mentorship, career counseling, and assistance with transitions for veterans and their families. mcleaguelibrary.org+1
In times of need, the detachment stands ready to assist with limited financial support, local referrals, or advocacy for veterans in crisis.
We support and promote the Youth Physical Fitness (YPF) program — a Marine Corps League initiative that encourages youth in schools and youth groups to engage in physical fitness, goal-setting, and recognition. mcleaguelibrary.org+1
As part of its youth efforts, the Marine Corps League also partners with or sponsors Young Marines, a national youth education and service program focused on leadership, citizenship, community service, and keeping youth drug-free. mcleaguelibrary.org+1
We also recognize excellence in Scouting: The League presents the “Good Citizenship Award” to Eagle Scouts, highlighting the achievements of youth in civic programs. mcleaguelibrary.org
The Marine Corps League Foundation runs a Scholarship Program that helps children of Marines and FMF Corpsmen (especially those who are or were League members) pursue higher education. mclfoundation.org
Detachment 1124 can act as a local sponsor or advocate for these scholarships, helping candidates from our area apply and raising awareness in our community.
We participate in local parades, memorial ceremonies (Veterans Day, Memorial Day), flag-raising events, and other community observances — helping keep patriotism and service front and center in Pasco County.
We partner with the East Pasco Chamber of Commerce to stay connected with local business, civic, and civic-service programming. As part of the chamber, we help represent veterans’ interests in local development, community planning, and networking.
Through chamber events and joint projects, we can host or support initiatives (e.g. veteran recognition nights, community cleanups, public outreach) that bring awareness to veterans’ issues and the Marine Corps League’s role in the community.
We maintain an active presence in local media and social platforms to keep the public informed of our efforts, recruit new members, and promote events that engage both Marine veterans and civilians alike.
We engage in educational outreach (schools, youth groups, civic clubs) to share stories of Marines, history of the Corps, and the importance of service — helping younger generations understand and appreciate the traditions of the Marine Corps.
